I am Jacqui Bennett, the CFA Ocicat Breed Council Secretary and would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know what my role is.

I have been owned by and been breeding Ocicats since 1998. My first Ocicat was a lovely blue spotted boy bred by Barbara Stewart of Auxarc Ocicats. While Bisbee was fairly certain that show halls were places to avoid, he was much loved and produced lovely babies including my first Regional Winner (Grand Champion Regional Winner Low Country Hot Toddy) Bisbee has since retired to a wonderful home in California where he enjoys basking in the sun and ruling his household.

While most show Ocicats are chocolate representatives and have made their mark in CFA history with numerous National Wins and prestigious wins such as Kitten of the Year (GC NW BW Dotdotdot Stradivarious - pictured left), my personal love has always been the black gene.

I have had the privilege of having bred tawny Ocicats who have held the honor of being the highest scoring tawnies since 2003 including CFA’s very first Tawny breed winner GC BW RW In2Spots Last Tango in Paris (pictured right).

I firmly believe that all 12 colors of Ocicat are uniquely special and have had and will continue to have well-deserved success in the show ring including national wins by GC GP NW Mosu’s Grey Shadow (CFA’s only dilute National Winner)

As your breed council secretary I feel it is my responsibility to act as the Ocicat Breed Council’s liaison with the CFA board to continue to work towards perfecting our standard while preserving our history and traditions.

As members of the breed council develop ideas for amendments or additions to our standard, we will discuss these on the breed council Yahoo Groups list for open and supportive discussion of their merits. I want everyone to feel welcome to voice their opinion without fear. This allows for a thorough discussion of ideas and specific wording to clarify any proposals in a friendly, constructive atmosphere long before it arrives on the official ballot for voting.

Our breed council often utilizes the yahoo polling tools to get a general idea of an idea's support as well.

While I understand that not all members of the breed council have access to the internet, this media is the quickest and most thorough for discussion available to us.

I am committed to passing on information from CFA as quickly as possible to all members. As it comes to me, I will communicate it to you.

Working together we can pool our knowledge and understanding of our special breed in order to ensure that we breed consistently to an easily interpreted and understood standard without fragmenting into regionally identifiable types.
